A biographical sketch of Georgia which was written in 1938 identifies James Carlisle Overstreet's ancestor, John Overstreet, who was born in 1810, as the cousin of James Overstreet, born in Barnwell, SC in 1773.
James was the son of James Overstreet b. NC 1750, and Sarah Booth. Sarah inherited substantial land holdings from her father and mother, John and Mary Booth. James Sr. died about 1783, but their son James Jr. is well documented as a community leader and United States Congressman from Georgia.
Because we know that James Jr. was the son of James Sr., we know that his cousin was the nephew of James Sr. Therefore, because the Y- DNA of a descendent of James Sr. is identical to the Y-DNA of a descendent of Henry b. England c. 1705, we know that they have a common male ancestor. This ancestor was probably old Henry himself.
